News from around the Dock

St Katharine Docks Medical Practice

We are very pleased to inform you that following the meeting that Dr Patel attended in Westminster on 3rd June with Earl Howe the Under Secretary of State for Health, Tower Hamlets Clinical Commissioning Group have agreed to the funding of a complete refurbishment of the St Katharine Docks Medical Practice premises. It is hoped that these works will be completed by Christmas. Following our discussions with Land Securities, the owners of Thomas More Square, they have very kindly agreed to make a ground floor unit in Thomas More Square available for the Practice to move into temporarily whilst the refurbishment works are carried out. Patients will be notified of the details of this temporary move by the Practice Manager in due course.

Following his meeting with representatives of NHS England on 13th May, Dr Patel is still awaiting the Position Paper they undertook to prepare which will deal with the issue of the longer term funding of the Practice.

As a result of our campaign the patient list size is continuing to grow and now stands at close to 1700 patients. Do please continue to spread the word and suggest to friends and neighbours who are not already registered that they call the Surgery on 020 7488 3653 to check if they are in the catchment area.

If you haven't already done so, please take a few minutes to show your support by doing the following:

  • Sign the petition at "http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/64721
  • Log on to NHS Choices at www.nhs.uk On the home page, go to "Comments" and enter the postcode E1W 1UA to take you to the St Katharine Docks Practice review area. You will be asked to rate elements of the service provided and leave your own comments. The ratings awarded from these comments really do count!

Dr Patel and his team are very grateful to members of FOSKD for their continued support.

New owners for St Katharine Docks

You may have seen in the press that the Board of Max Property Group plc who own St Katharine Docks has accepted an offer of £477.7 million for the entire share capital of their business from Blackstone, the global property investor/manager with some $280bn under management. A copy of the press release can be seen here.

The deal remains subject to shareholder approval at a meeting to be held on 14th August but 46% of the shareholders have already indicated that they are voting in favour of the transaction so the Directors are confident that the deal will proceed.

This offer from Blackstone has brought forward a change in ownership of the Dock by approximately 18 months which is when Max Property Group originally planned to divest its portfolio and return value to shareholders. Ben Walford of Prestbury Investments who has been managing the Dock for Max Property Group throughout their period of ownership will be ensuring a smooth handover to the Blackstone team over the next few weeks and has undertaken to make an introduction for FOSKD to the Blackstone management.

Following the announcement of the impending sale Ben Walford made the following comment:

"During the next few weeks in anticipation that the sale will complete in mid-August, we will be handing over the management of SKD to Blackstone. We have already highlighted to their management team the excellent relationship we enjoy with FOSKD and identified the significant benefits of being able to consult about SKD with a well-structured elected committee. The calibre of people we have met and dealt with at Blackstone has been extremely high and we have every reason to be confident you will continue to enjoy excellent relations with them, as have we with you, going forwards. Our intention is to introduce the appropriate members of the Blackstone team to the Chairman of FOSKD as soon as possible. We will ensure the transition is seamless as we have always found our relationship with the Committee and the Friends to be balanced, fair and productive and truly hope this will continue to flourish so you do not have to return to the days when that wasn't the case."

Your Executive Committee looks forward to meeting with the Blackstone management in due course and learning about their plans for St Katharine Docks.
