Dear Friends

sueLater this month we will be launching a new online membership and events management system linked to our existing website. All members will receive a direct email with information about how to login to the system. Members will be able to up-date their own personal contact details as necessary and renew annual membership as well as register for events. For anyone needing a bit of help to login for the first time after you have received your instructions, just come along to the social evening we are holding on 3rd July at the Tower Hotel (booking details below) where some of our Committee members will be happy to help.

We have a great summer outing planned to RAF Northolt and our thanks go to Yeoman Warder Spike Abbott for arranging what I am sure will be a fascinating visit. Numbers for this event are limited to 25 members so don't delay in registering via the booking link below if you wish to secure your place!

FOSKD has helped to facilitate a public meeting of the St Katharine & Wapping Ward Panel on the 19th July so we hope as many of you as possible will attend to hear about the work of the Panel and the relationships we are building to help to address the issue of anti social behaviour locally.

19th July 2018 St Katharine & Wapping Ward Panel

Public Meeting – No booking required

The Ward Panel is holding a public meeting which all members of FOSKD are invited to attend in the Bridge / Tower Suites on the upper foyer level at the Guoman Tower Hotel on Thursday 19th July. The timing is 18.00 arrival for a 18.30 start to the meeting. Refreshments will be served at the reception before the meeting. Members of the Safer Neighbourhood Police team and representatives from Tower Hamlets Council will join the Panel to up-date us on how anti-social behaviour (ASB) in the Ward is being addressed.

Representatives from St Mungo's Charity will be on hand during the reception to talk about the work they do to support homeless people in the Ward and they will also answer any questions on this topic in the Q&A session during the meeting. Please do come and show your support for the group of volunteers who serve on the Ward Panel and raise any issues of concern which you may have about ASB. By working together, the aim is to ensure that St Katharine & Wapping Ward is a safe and friendly neighbourhood in which to live.

Chinese Embassy to move to the Royal Mint Court site opposite St Katharine Docks

In a landmark transaction for the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, it has recently been announced that the Royal Mint Court site on the opposite side of East Smithfield Road from St Katharine Docks has been sold by property investment advisory company Delancey & its joint venture partner LRC Group to the People's Republic of China. The 5.4 acre site is set to become the new home of the Chinese Embassy. Based in Portland Place in the West End of London for the last 150 years the move to east London "will provide the new face of China in the new era" according to Ambassador Liu Xiaomong.

Planning consent had been secured from Tower Hamlets Council by the joint venture in February 2017 for redevelopment/refurbishment which was to have provided high specification office accommodation together with new retail & leisure space. FOSKD took an active part in the public consultation process for that scheme and we look forward with interest to see what the revised plans for the site will comprise of. Some time ago the Chinese Company ABP bought what was the Royal Albert Docks comprising of almost 2km of riverfront for offices, homes and shops. That scheme is due to be completed in March 2019.
